The weather in Xiamen has been really hot these few days and we thought this would be a good day for our to visit the 厦门植物园 (Xiamen Botanical Garden) as we had reschedule visit earlier. Xiamen Botanical Garden is a lush and expansive garden offering a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Located on Wanshi Mountain, this botanical garden spans over 4.93 square kilometers and is known for its diverse plant collections and beautiful landscapes. It’s a perfect place for a leisurely stroll, offering visitors a chance to connect with nature and explore various themed gardens.
As our visit was during right in the hot summer month, the morning sun was intense, so we headed straight to the “Rainforest Garden” to seek shelter. The large trees provided ample shade, and mists were sprayed throughout the garden to water the trees and plants, creating a refreshing atmosphere. It was a picturesque scene as the morning sunlight penetrated the forest, casting beautiful sunbeams. The Rainforest Garden is designed to mimic a tropical rainforest, featuring a variety of exotic plants and creating a cool, misty environment that feels like a natural oasis.
Next, we headed to the Succulent Garden, which boasts a large variety of cacti and succulents, some towering over 2 meters in height. This place appears to have been gaining some popularity as a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts, with its unique and striking plant displays. The Succulent Garden showcases an impressive collection of drought-resistant plants, arranged in artistic formations that highlight their diverse shapes and sizes.
We
then wandered around the rest of the botanical garden, taking in the beautiful
scenery. A brief shower brought some respite from the sweltering heat of the
day, adding a refreshing touch to our visit. The botanical garden is divided
into several sections, each with its own theme, including the Bamboo Garden,
the Palm Garden, and the Medicinal Plant Garden, making it a rich educational
experience as well.
In the evening, as we were looking out for places for dinner, we stumbled upon an unassuming shop—literally a hole in the wall—that served fantastic xiao long bao. The dumplings were a delightful end to our day.
